It's not metal weapons, but metal armors that're banned.
The thing about weapon is that Druids are pretty much limited to using things that resembles "farm tools" as weapons, even if those might have metal in them.
(It's also weird that they don't include scrythe, flail and nunchuku since those are farm tools as well... Okay so the main books don't have nunchuku and scrythe, and flail was kinda stretching it...)
Think of it as a (kindadumb80s) way of portraying the "Druid = Nature" theme.

Bows are hunting tools, and in terms of rural livelihoods it's a thing designed for the specific purpose to kill animals, of which is a huge no-no for Druids.
"Farming" in this case means "Working the land" and "Growing stuffs". (Well, in this case the dart/sling doesn't make sense either... They gotta fit a long-ranged weapon in somehow I guess. v=3=v)
...Again, its the 80s idea of Druids. It's actually surprising that WoTC didn't make them all vegan nowadays... They didn't, right? 0_=\
